Spring has arrived here in the Bay Area thanks to several weeks in the upper 60s and there is stuff blooming all over town. I managed to snap these pics right before the rains started up again today, though.
My own gardening is limited at the moment, but I was very excited to see some blooms on my patio. And not just any blooms, but Ribes sanguineum, aka flowering currant, one of my favorite flowers. It's just started to open, so soon the flowers will be dripping in longer pendants.
Also flowering is one of my 3 blueberries. The other two are a different variety.
In the house, I just bought two orchids.
And I have some cut birds of paradise in the house that were brought over for my birthday party. This shot just reminds me of many a rainy day in the Bay.
Thanks as always to Carol over at May Dreams Gardens for hosting Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day.

Nice to see February in the Bay area. The flowering currant is beautiful. I will have to look into that. Happy GBBD, Carolyn
ReplyDeleteWe have had some amazing January and early February weather, but it was beginning to get too dry here. So glad for the rain this week, and so is the garden! Our Ribes sanguineum is just blooming too, and it's the first time our young plant has flowered! Our blueberries are about to burst, but yours are a little ahead of ours. I love these first signs of spring!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you on bloom day. Our Ribes sanguineum and our blueberries are in a nearly identical state.
ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone in California has spring blooms except me! I guess that's what I get for being farther north than all the other California garden bloggers on the Internet. Your currant is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from 30 miles east of LA. Only in SoCal would what are calling rain be noted as anything other than a mist.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of your flowers. They must add cheer. Although- have you seen the yellow, pink and blue bird of paradise? There are some in Pasadena that I vistit like they are in a museum. Way out of my price range. At the moment.
hi! thanks for the ids on the wildflowers on my bloom day post! that's so helpful! (i will amend asap!) also, that flowering currant is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to see the blueberry blooms! I hope I have some soon on mine. The ribes is a lovely addition to Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy bloom day--and it sound slike belated birthday wishes are in order too! Ribes and blueberries look like a a great accompaniment to the festivities--treats now, but harbingers of some great edibles later in the season.
ReplyDeleteHappy bloom day! Aren't the ribes fun? BTW, I really enjoyed the post about Orr Hot Springs, just made me want to leave right away.
ReplyDeleteLovely. I really like the flowering currant and the orchids.
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten how wet the Bay Area could be at this time of year, I used to visit a lot on business. I love your Bird of Paradise, such a contrast to the quiet subtlety of the Ribes sanguineum.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful orchids, and I confess I have never heard of a flowering currant. I suppose the name means there are no berries, and perhaps it is not currant at all? It is fun to meet a blogger who lives so close by.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms! Happy blooming day!
ReplyDeleteLove the Ribes sanguineum. Mine is just starting to bloom, and it sure takes the doldrums out of winter!
