I'm a little behind on my blogging. These photos are from about 3 or 4 weeks ago on a hike up in Tilden Park in Berkeley. It was a beautiful day with lots blooming. Enjoy.\
Sisyrinchium bellum (blue-eyed grass) perfectly scattered about this meadow.
Lupine. A huge slope full of these big purple bushes. Really beautiful.
There was a slope full of Indian paintbrush and checker mallow.
And not a picture of a flower, but this branch popping out of the main stem was pretty cool. Cow parsnip or Heracleum maximum. A not so attractive plant in my opinion, but I like this shot.

Oh, I just wish I lived a little closer to Tilden. It's so amazing, I have to try to get there this year.
ReplyDeleteI think the blue-eyed grass, and the lupine are taunting me. I keep threatening to plant Sisyrinchium here, although it will have to wait until fall. As for the lupine, my attempt to plant Arroyo lupine this year was a near dismal failure. At last count, of 56 scarified seeds planted...I seem to have a grand total of 5 plants. Oh well, maybe next year they'll multiply. I can only hope to see so many beautiful blue lupine bushes here. Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteGotta love that blue-eyed grass! I was out this weekend to about the 2K to 2.5K foot elevation zone east of here, and it was absolutely everywhere. For some reason my plants down here in the lowlands at 360 feet haven't done much this year--maybe more competition from other plants during this wet year.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the lupin is out of site. There is some yellow flowering lupin over at Fort Funston...propably all over the place, but still getting my bearing on wildflower season here in the Bay Area. So much to explore. Thanks for your post...late or not...they are great. Matti
ReplyDeleteThere's a ton of blue-eyed grass out this year! Don't know how to possibly quantify that for the science folks out there, but it's a general observation. Thanks for blogging. I've enjoyed your posts!
