Alien life forms at Huckleberry Regional Preserve

I went to Huckleberry a couple of weeks in search of Ribes sanguineum blossoms.  I found that and quite a bit more.  One of the storms seemed to have knocked a tree over at the beginning of the trail.  But I saw some people coming up that part of the trail so I went on down.  Shhh, don't tell.  I think it was only for liability reasons anyway.
The ferns were emerging from their dry season slumber.

These weird shapes were on the madrone trunks.

 More after the jump...

The hazelnuts putting out their catkins.
A couple of bright mushrooms under the duff.

A very angry bumblebee visiting manzanita blooms.
And of course the Ribes I was looking for.

  1. I was having a discussion last week with someone from Oregon who had her nose in the air because they had better fungus than we do. It looks like you also have got more charismatic fungus action than we usually see down here where it's dryer...

  2. Nice images. The madrone growth patterns look fungal.
The recent storms have knocked down a lot of trees. I have seen more downed trees this week than I usually see in a year.

  3. Whoa. I love how otherworldly it all is. Good finds and glad you broke the rules to show us!

  4. Wow, those shrooms look like roasted bell peppers. Yum! (or maybe not, as you never know what's edible in the realm of wild fungi). So lovely to see Ribes sanguineum outside of a garden setting in its native habitat.

  5. Hi,

I wanted to email you in regards in any possible advertising opportunities you may have with your website. I'm looking to earn support for a national cause and get visibility for the "plant 1 billion trees" project. Let me know if you would be interested at all in supporting this cause or if you want more information on it.

  6. Mushroom snobbery. Well I guess that's what you hold onto in a place wher it rains all the time...
